Exam season a stressful time of year when the pressure to perform well and get good grades can feel overwhelming. Here are Modern Tuition's top 5 exam tips to help you get through the 2023 exam series:
1. Manage your revision time effectively
Creating a study plan is a great way to manage revision time effectively and cover all the necessary material. This includes reviewing class notes, textbooks, and previous exam papers, and scheduling in rest periods to avoid burnout. A good rule for making revision timetables is to prioritise revision according to the dates of your exams.
2. Familiarise yourself with the exams you are sitting
The same type of questions come up time and time again in exam papers and it's likely that they will come up in your exam paper too! Learning what questions to expect for each exam and defining how to answer them is the key to scoring higher marks. It's also worth noting that predicting what topics are likely to come up in your exam papers could help you narrow down what areas of revision are worth focusing on!
3. Find ways to manage exam-related anxiety
It's incredibly important to stay calm and focused during revision and particularly during your exams. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed take a deep breath or try a grounding exercise to refocus your mind: remember that you've prepared for this moment and have the knowledge and skills to succeed.
4. Test yourself under timed conditions before the exam
Knowing how long to spend on each question or section of your exam paper is crucial - however you also need to practice completing questions within the allotted time too. Completing past papers under timed conditions will help you consolidate your knowledge and feel more comfortable sitting the real exam.
5. Reassure yourself
Ultimately it's important to remember that exams are just one measure of academic achievement. While good grades are important, they don't define your worth as a person. So aim to do the best you can and you will be able to walk away from your exams with your head held high.
Good luck to all of our GCSE and A Level students - you can do this!
